Can we make it illegal for those smarter than us to invest in our markets?
If not in our betting markets, then in our car industry, peanut farms,
scones for the CWA?
Don't they already do that?

Lindsay,
Spoof traders - please explain what they do and why it is bad.
My guess is that any increase in liquidity is a great thing for all
Although if they are smarter than you or I, I guess that they will take our
potential profits.
Life is hard.

Yes, it's much less than 10% I think, but the money wagered is far less than
that. I would guess it's in the vicinity of 1% to 5% of turnover.
Although looking at markets on a Saturday, it is growing, even leaving out
those spoof traders who have infested our markets now.
It was only a matter of time.

While I appreciate your reasoning, regularly upsetting 10% (would we be
that
much??? Doubt it when I think about it) of a customer base does not make
any
business sense IMHO.
"regularly" being the operative word here. Outage every 2 months for
Australia?

I dunno...
Betfair IS a worldwide company, but at least 80% if not more of their
turnover (commission) is on UK racing.
To schedule this for the weekend would be silly as that is their busiest
time for both UK and Australian racing.
It makes logistical sense to do it midweek and daytime (our time)
nightime
(UK time) and have it back up hours before the first in the UK.
While it's inconvenient, they inconvenince less than 10% of their punter
to
save 80 - 90% hassle.
Makes good business sense to me.

How smart is that? I realise they are a worldwide company, however
most
organisations schedule this type of maintenance till Sunday/Monday
worldwide
when things are most quiet. Certainly not mid week (and when theyre
racing
at headquarters!!!- not happy Jan!!!)
